Stinkhoutkloof Nature Walk

Bloukrans Forest Station, Tsitsikamma Indigenous Forest

Most hikers will recognize the Otter Trail as being one of the top hiking trails in South Africa and indeed the world. In the same area as the Otter Trail are a number of beautiful trails of varying lengths, that are well worth exploring. Stinkhoutkloof Nature Walk is only 8Km long and should take no more than 3 hours to accomplish. If you are lucky enough to be visiting the area, take the time out of your schedule to walk this beautiful little trail. There is no need to book.

To get to the Bloukrans Forest Station, take the Natures Valley/Coldstream turnoff the N2 toll road just before the Tsitsikamma tollgate (see map for details).

Entry to the trail is by way of a self issuing permit obtainable at the box at the entrance to the trail.

The trail follows a forestry road for about 2Km before crossing the highway and descending down a steep path into the indigenous forest.

The Fungi and the tree ferns along the route are some of the most beautiful to be found along any trail.

There are many river crossings and the water is so beautifully refreshing despite the tea colouration from the tannin.

A swim in one of the deep pools is most enjoyable.

Conclusion

This is one of the many short trails in the Tsitsikamma area that are really worth doing. Take your time and enjoy the amazing experience of walking in pristine Knysna forest.

If you plan on spending a few days in the area, why not enquire about staying at The Tree-Top Forest Chalet which is tucked away in the forest between Knysna and Plettenberg Bay. The rates are very reasonable and the chalet very comfortable.
