Mateke Game Farm and Hiking Trails

The Waterberg mountains of the Limpopo Province of South Africa are the hiding places for many hidden treasures of natural beauty. In the last few years the hiking fraternity of South Africa has come to recognise this potential and many farmers have opened up their land in response to this demand.

Mateke Game Farm and Hiking Trails are situated on a farm close to the iron ore town of Thabazimbi and about two and a half hours drive from Gauteng (285km from Johannesburg) and adjoining the popular Marakele National Park

The Trails

From the Tree camp base camp two trails stretch out across different areas of the game farm. The Koedoe trail is 9kms long and takes the hiker up into the mountains. Beautiful panoramic views can be seen from the top. The second trail is the Njala trail and consists of a route that mostly follows the course of the river with pools suitable for swimming in. This trail is 13 kms long.
