Mariepskop Chalets and Trails
Mariepskop
mountain lies on the eastern side of the Blyde River Canyon and is
conspicuous from across the canyon for the radar masts that bristle from
its summit. Because of the presence of the air force base, the area has
had a restriction on access and this has meant that a pristine natural
forest has flourished unharmed.

-The
forests are spectacular with many old indigenous trees that stretch
skyward to incredible heights. The Klaserie falls plummets off the
escarpment edge making an awesome spectacle. The views to the
lowveld from the escarpment must rank as some of the best in the
area. Guides are available to show you this beautiful area. |

Conclusion
A visit
to Mariepskop is well worth the five hour drive from Gauteng. The
self catering chalets are probably the best value for money that you
will find anywhere in South Africa and the area is magnificent. |
