NEWS UPDATE
NEWS UPDATE OCTOBER 2011 After meeting the Chairman of Forest Farm we were informed that they have decided to put on ‘hold’ their extensions for the time being. They will be fencing their property along Nichol and along their side of the river along the servitude. The Forest Town School Campus project will not be for another two years because only then can the Education Dept. put the building of the campus on the financial Agenda.
This means we will still have all that open ground opposite the Park to contend with which includes the squatters. The only way we can get rid of them on a permanent basis is by development. Once arrested they always return, and will continue to do so as long as the land is there. In short, very little will happen on the West Bank for two years as of now. Much depends on the economic situation here and worldwide. SOIL DUMPING This has nothing to do with FOFS who were not informed and are not involved. This was organized by the Recreation Centre and we can only hope that it is being done properly with engineers involved. We have grave reservations regarding the runoff from the parking lot onto the field and the seeming lack of compacting and suitability of sand/soil in the roads. SECURITY We have signed a “No charge” agreement with ADT to provide 24/7 patrols into the Park. Boards will go up shortly with the patrol car numbers and emergency numbers for quick response. We thank ADT for this generous community service. TOILETS We have had the toilets upgraded after 5 incidents of theft. The building has been ‘fortified’ and we have gone back to plastic piping due to the theft of the metal piping. We can only hope that they will remain intact for use by the park visitors. FRIDAY 11 FEBRUARY - 2011 After a year of silence from Forest Farm who, with the dive in the economy, pulled out of negotiations re. the Park with us and JPC, they have now produced a plan of a whole new concept for their Western bank - not the Nichol Highway edge. (They own from Italtile to PicknPay.)
Their current buildings will stay and be improved and they will expanded right down to the 100yr. floodline. This will be half of the land - T.A.C.C.P. Campus and the other half is to become the new home of Forest Town School.
Our plan to enlarge the Park by extending across the river the length of the Park now no longer applies but we have the Northern section - 54,000sq. m across from the weir and up (not to Nichol though) which we will now concentrate on as this must now become part of the Park.
Once the whole Committee has seen the plan - I only got it today - and we have some idea of the direction we should be looking at and after meeting the TACCP Committee, I think the best will be to have a public meeting so that everyone can see what is in store.
Basically, a mass of single storey buildings covering virtually the entire bank opposite the Park stretching about in line with the current toilets on the Park. The rest of the bank opposite the second field is Park - undeveloped which is now the subject of our attention.
