Reserve, Bronkhorstspruit
Developed by the
Friends of eZemvelo Nature, the Penduka Hiking Trail is a really
beautiful trail and a relatively easy walk. It is within easy reach of Pretoria
and Johannesburg and should prove very popular with day visitors and weekend
guests to the reserve.

The trail
starts from the Wilge River parking area and begins with an easy walk
across grasslands where there is opportunity normally, to observe some of
the wild game species that make this reserve so special. |

As one nears the gorge, so the
rock formations become more spectacular. |

The way down
into the gorge passes a beautiful cascade of water. The route along the
gorge passes some lovely rock formations. |

There are also
some lovely rock pools
to rest by and ponder the tranquility of the beautiful
setting. |

Conclusion
This trail is sure
to become popular among day hikers looking for a new venue for an outing. The
trail is well laid out and there is ample opportunity for the future expansion
of the trail with the possibility of an eventual overnight route. There is also braai
and swimming facilities available at the main camp.
At this moment in
time (March 2004) there is no need to book for this trail and the cost of the
trail is included in with your entrance into the reserve; however those doing
the trail should report to reception before commencement of their walk. A
donation to the Friends of Ezemvelo would be very much appreciated. Enquiries about the
